Chapter 13: Tangled Webs (3)

Only a few hours apart and already causing trouble, Cha Ming thought as he flew through the Titan Clan’s residence. His quick, abrupt movements prompted indignant shouts and curses, but at this point, he couldn’t care less.

“Brother Clear Sky,” Titan Shatterstorm said, running up beside him. “Trouble?”

“Yes,” Cha Ming replied. “Can I teleport out of the manor?”

“Not without slamming into a defensive shield,” Titan Shatterstorm said. Then, to Cha Ming’s surprise, he handed him an amulet. “Wear this, and you can bypass security. Be sure to give it back, and don’t copy it. We wouldn’t want that falling into the wrong hands.”

“I won’t forget the favor,” Cha Ming said.

He put on the artifact without hesitation, then pierced through space to establish a link with Huxian. In this situation, it was best to assume a partial demonic form, so he grew fur on his arms and sprouted a tail. His ears, claws, and teeth transformed, and his nose became a thousand times more powerful. The main benefit was his enhanced spatial control and the resistance of his body to void space, which he immediately utilized to tear a rift in the void rather than teleport.

The void between realms was a cold and unforgiving place. Cha Ming, weak and inexperienced as he was, had to tread it carefully. He was not like Huxian in that he wasn’t a Godbeast. There were many threats in this place that would spell his doom.

Only the combination of his strong body, fierce regeneration, and destruction domain enabled him to weather the spatial debris and turbulent eddies that peppered his body the moment he entered. He hadn’t yet suffered much physical damage, but his energy stores were being depleted quickly.

It took about thirty seconds to travel a few hundred meters, but in that time, he exhausted a third of his reserves and traveled around ten kilometers in the outside world. Traveling this way was risky but far faster than any other method of transportation.

He left the void through a rift several hundred meters above a fountain. His sudden appearance immediately tripped alarms and attracted the attention of the city watch. They did not stop him but kept a wary eye on him, which was perfect.

Cha Ming did not know where Yu Wen was, and Huxian was unable to convey her full position through his secondhand coordinates. He flew a bit higher up and took in a bird’s-eye view of the city.

Titanvale was a tear-shaped city. It had been built to exploit the nearby rifts, and as such had been built to hug the more fertile side of Titan Valley. It was in this place that the city’s adventurers and hunters and miners made their living. Titan Valley was filled with thousands of pocket dimensions, making teleporting into and out of it impossible.

It didn’t take long for Cha Ming to spot Yu Wen from his new vantage point. Not her, exactly, but the people chasing her. He couldn’t get a lock on her, which severely limited what he could do.
